Happy Independence Day!!!
So this year, we got to celebrate the Fourth with the Doughmans again!! Jared went to his first parade....... and absolutely loved it. I am pretty sure he was the only one year old there that sat in his stroller for the ENTIRE parade and danced, cheered, and clapped through the whole thing. We brought his stroller to use for the walk to the parade from the parking lot, and figured we'd stash it somewhere once it started. but no, my sweet little boy had is own seat that let him see everything! it was so cute to watch. i just kept waiting for him to get tired of it, and start whining, but no, never happened.
This is a picture of shawna, bryce, and belle, claiming our spot on the curb. Their family ran (walked) a 5K that morning and had come and set chairs up early along the parade route. Well, Jake and Belle were sitting in their chairs, and an entire family came and basically sat on their laps/feet and pushed them back so they weren't on the front row. There were no adults paying attention or watching at the time, and the kids didn't know if it was ok to tell them they were taking their seats. needless to say, we got pushed back and it was a little annoying, but hey, it was a parade.
The kids went to the fire station across the street and got these cute little hats. Jared would bang his hands against it to make his clap louder.
I know, really, he is adorable. he loves his cousins! After the parade, we went back to Doughman's house and had a BBQ- Yummy! Then the Ludlows arrived (Jason's sister Heather, who lives in Folsom, CA) and we all went swimming. it was so refreshing. jared was a little hesitant in the beginning- you know, his swimming phobia and all- but then he found a ball he could take in the water with him. that was the trick- all he needed was some sort of security to give him a little confidence. I still wouldn't call him a fish or anything, but he wasn't crying.
The animals in the parade were by far his favorite part of the day. He was amazed at these horses. There were also the other usual parade animals- dogs and camels. Yes, i said camels. actually, it was only one camel and it started out the parade. it was kind of weird- didn't know camels were part of american history, but hey, what do i know??
